As a Montrealer, I’m pretty used to unpredictable weather — snow today, sunshine tomorrow, cold snap to freeze everything up, sure, why not. Generally, I buy a new pair of boots every winter because, as an avid transit user, I walk everywhere and my boots ineveitable keep breaking at one place or another.
Oddly enough, this year I did not see snowfall once. Montreal had only two major snowfalls and I spent the first one In Europe and the second in the Dominican. Unfortunately, this meant that I didn’t buy a new pair of boot in 2011-2012. When the rain started up in mid-April I was completely unprepared and was forced to walk to school in shoes that were entirely soaked through by the time I arrived. I spent the whole class thinking about it and ultimately bit the bullet on the way home. I decided to stop buying cheap $30 pairs of boots and get myself a pair of Hunter boots.

Best $178 I ever spent! Granted, had I not been so cheap I could have picked them up in London for $126 but that’s neither here nor there. I wake up now and look out of the window hoping for rain just so that I can pull on my wooly socks and slide these boots on. I love them and my feet stay dry and I that makes me so happy it’s unbelievable.
Aside from being entirely practical, boots go with everything. I can wear these with tights, skinny jeans, regular jeans, sweatpants — I might even go so far as to say that I could probably pull these off with a skirt/dress. Hunter boots are the fashionable boot right now and, if you’re wearing them and look relatively put together, no one cares what else you’re wearing.
Related: Princess Diana wore Hunter boots but Kate Middleton has ditched them in favour of pricier Le Chameau boots. Do you think that Hunter boots can hold on with Kate’s blatant rejection?
I love my hunter wellies! I have that exact pair in the photo =)
I’ve been wearing them the past few days because it’s raining like crazy here and they’re awesome. They’re ideal commuter shoes — and they look great with my work dresses! haha
Hmmm, I never thought to wear them with a dress. I will try that sometime
it’s just for my commute mostly… but if it’s a rainy day at the farmers market or something they absolutely look great with dark tights & a casual dress! they’re awesome.
I’ve always wanted hunter wellies but it rarely rains in SoCal. Maybe when I move back up to NorCal I’ll have an excuse!
You must! I’ve never had anything this waterproof (I have no shame in telling you that I jumped in a puddle yesterday)
I really want a pair! So cute!
I luuuurrrve hunter boots! I tried to buy some last winter but my calves are too big for them (even the “wide calf” version). I haven’t found a suitable alternative yet so I’ll just admire them from afar for now!
I have the same problem and I wear size 6!. They also do special releases of shin grazing ones that go up just to below the calf bulge. Mine is one of those. Super cute but a bit harder to find. I got mine at Get Outside in Toronto a few years ago..
I was just looking at a pair of Hunter boots the day before yesterday! I was considering asking my parents for a pair for my birthday. I love them!
The side clasp on the Le Chameau boots looks quite practical, but I think I still prefer the styling of the Hunter ones. If the Duchess effect brings down the price of the Hunters, I may be convinced to buy a 2nd pair 😉
