What the style of winter coat says about its wearer

If you’ve ever been on a night out in the likes of Liverpool, Newcastle or Manchester, places where there are hordes of youngsters in the same area, you may have noticed that even in sub-zero temperatures, many of them choose to go coatless. Cut to a sophisticated park in Cheltenham or Oxford, however, and the mums, dads and dog walkers have their winter coats fully buttoned up at the first sign of frost.

Whilst an individual’s penchant to wear or not to wear winter coats may in itself say a lot about their character, the style of coat you choose to wear can say just as much.

Coat with leather sleeves

Coats with leather sleeves

If you want to spot a follower of fashion take a look at the sleeves of her coat, if they are made out of leather, then your suspicions are likely to be correct! Being intermittently all over the catwalk, the leather sleeved coat denotes a serious devotee to the latest trends.

Trench coat

The trench coat

Whilst the trench coat once represented a nerdy kind of character who would walk round aimlessly with nothing to do, in the last decade or so it has reinvented itself as an ultra-stylish form of winter coat.

As practicality is at the heart of the trench coat, shown in the way they are designed to keep the rain off and the wind out, their wearers are probably the practical types. Although with flattering cuts, stylish designs and eye-catching colours, the humble trench coat definitely denotes a wearer with a touch of style and class.

Parka for women

The parka

This style of coat has always been a firm favourite amongst mods, rock stars and rebels. Although the parka has been modified somewhat since mods dressed in almost identical parkas headed to Brighton beach in the 60s to take on the rockers, today’s parka can come equipped with a faux fur trim and other unconventional accessories.

Duffle coat for women

The duffle coat

The good old duffle coat tends to be the preserve of a person that likes their home comforts, who wants to be warm and comfortable yet at the same time is conscious about fashion. As the duffle coat is the type of coat that you may be reluctant to throw out – namely because it’s so warm and comfy – wearers may be the type of people who don’t get carried away with fashion and don’t head to the nearest high street every time a new winter coat appears in Vogue.

I am DEFINITELY the duffle coat type, whereas my wife Jen is a trench coat type. We both love style and comfort, with a splash of girliness, which I think both styles fit perfectly!!!

I, surprisingly, have all 4 types of coats. Its mostly because I enjoy shopping way more than I should.
