There are few feelings that compare to the relief I experience when the snow starts to melt and the thought of wearing floral prints no longer seems so absurd. That’s spring for you, folks.
This wonderful season rescues us from wind chill and the awkward fumbling on the subway when you try to maneuver yourself into a seat with your parka on. So, why not celebrate it? Call your best girls over for a few drinks and have yourselves a little soirée- a spring soirée!
Here are some easy tips and tricks to turning an, otherwise, regular girls’ night into a special evening:
A colour theme: A theme adds a special touch to a get-together at your house. It makes attendees feel like you’ve gone the extra mile. I chose a bright pink for my little soirée and I’ll admit, the bright punch was welcome after a season of (and lifetime of wearing) dark colours and neutrals.
Fresh & vibrantly-coloured flowers: The simplest way to enforce a colour scheme is with fresh flowers. I used gerbera daisies and tulips* because they are perfect for most occasions.

Thirst quenchers: A delicious cocktail can be the best accessory to a good time. My girlfriends and I summoned spring with some Pretty Pomegranate Fizz, made with Skinnygirl Cherry Flavoured Vodka. The drinks were colourful, flavourful and it was a first-time-tasting for me. Everyone looked terribly classy with these deep red cocktails in hand!
Give em’ something to remember: Whether it’s a Polaroid of the night or a sweet treat for the road, a token of appreciation for your guests makes a lasting impression. I wrapped these sweet treats in a small cellophane bag tied with twine. Homemade pink chocolate chip and toffee cookies go a long way!
Dress for the occasion: I am a believer in dressing down if I’m spending an evening at my girlfriend’s house. However, it can be loads of fun slipping into your first spring dress of the season without fearing the dreaded cold-on-bare-legs issue. I sported this pleated number with a charming, small palm tree print on it. Go ahead- get fancy.
It doesn’t take much to make an evening feel special. After the winter we’ve had, it’s fair to say we all need a little spring awakening. These little touches will be sure to do the trick. Now, go get your spring soirée on!
