Baroque has been on trend throughout this year, and it’s a perfect look for the upcoming Holiday Season. Just picture embroidery, tapestry, damask and jacquard fabrics layered for visual opulence – so luxe. Velvet, pearls, sequins, and lace can be thrown in for added richness.

Wear one Baroque inspired piece, or layer them for a blast of texture. Perhaps pair a sweater with a metallic brocade high waisted skirt.  For a subtle Baroque look, wear a solid blouse with brocade pants, or a simple dress with brocade booties. There is a shoe style for everyone this Fall and there are many trends to choose from. Any shoes are easy to wear when you know what kind of outfit to pair them with.

T-Strap and ankle straps are very feminine and they slim the ankle. If the strap falls below the ankle then these shoes can also elongate the legs. Skinny straps are slimming and wide straps are edgy – edgy can fit in with the Punk trend. Wear T-Strap and ankle strap shoes with skirts and dresses to show some leg.

Sandals with cut-outs are visually interesting and sexy on the foot.  Wear cut-out sandals with dresses, skirts, skinny jeans, and slim cut pants – possibly cropped.

Slippers are a different take on ballet flats and can be worn in the same way. Slide some on with slim pants, skirts, dresses, skinny jeans, or cropped pants. Don’t wear them with wide legged pants, long skirts or tights.

Loafers fit in with the Menswear trend – wear them with slim pants, skirts, and dresses.

 

 

 

Chelsea boots are reminiscent of the 60’s, and can be worn with skirts, dresses, and tights.  If wearing pants with these boots choose a pair that have a hemline that falls over the top of boot.

Some people find a wedge heel easier to walk on, and Wedge booties are great for Fall. Wear them with skirts, dresses, matchstick pants, or skinny jeans.

Lace-Up Booties give a Victorian feel and can be worn just like any other bootie.

Over the knee boots are trendy and can be worn with skirts, dresses, and skinny jeans. Make sure that the bottom hem of skirts and dresses fall over the top of the boot.

Burgundy is a visually rich color which makes it perfect to wear this Fall, and through the Winter. When velvet, satin, or suede pieces are added to the mix Burgundy is luxe and regal.

There are several shades of Burgundy with different degrees of red or purple in them so the color can suit many skin tones. Maroon, Oxblood, Merlot, Bordeaux…is anyone else thinking about wine?

Wear a pretty pair of gold and wine hued earrings to add some sophistication to an outfit. Choose an Oxblood boot to make a statement, or a Merlot coat instead of basic black.

Usually studs on clothing relate to the “Punk” look and this Fall Punk has come around again to be on trend. No statement needed – no anarchy or rebellion – just metallics and geometry. The studs themselves are interesting enough in shape, and the shine of the metal can dress up an outfit.

Think about studs in the 70’s and picture the punk rock scene – and studded black leather jackets. The 80’s music videos showcased Ladies rockin’ out to the hair metal bands – wearing studded bustiers. Think back to the 90’s and remember the studs of 90210. Kidding. Really.

Forget all of the past looks and choose pieces thoughtfully to give a wink to punk. Wear a simple dress and stud covered heels – or pair the heels with jeans. Wear gunmetal or black stud earrings and a chain or studded bracelet. Wear a scull tank with a blazer and pants. Mix in other colors in addition to black to make the look current.

On a side note, when wearing stud & spike embellished high heels be careful not to puncture the opposite foot when standing with feet together. It has been known to happen….

Bring a little glam into every day with some stylish Art Deco pieces and outfits. Now you may be asking what Art Deco Style is? Originally the Art Deco period was during the 20’s & 30’s with a revival in the 80’s. The trend came around again earlier this year, and is still very chic for Fall.

The Art Deco look is defined by geometric lines and shapes, the colors emerald and black, and can include tassels and velvet. Look for bags, necklaces, or earrings with tassels, and beautiful velvet shapes on dresses and skirts.

Metallics like gold and silver can be found not only on accessories, but also in the details on dresses, pants, etc. In the Art Deco world sequins are always in fashion regardless of the time of day. (Sounds like the kind of place I want to be.)

Show off statement pieces like a bold cuff, metal detailed belt, or geometric clutch. With the attention on one accessory the eye is drawn to the detail of the accessory. Wear rhinestone covered earrings and rings for some sparkle. Don a beaded headband for a soft feminine look.

Skinny jeans are here to stay for fall and beyond, and there are many denim styles to choose from. Color denim has carried into fall, and the colors have moved into jewel tones like emerald, ruby, amethyst, and sapphire. Match the falling leaves and wear forest green, mustard, or pumpkin denim.

Prints are big for fall, and animal prints are always trendy. For something a little different try damask, paisley, brocade, or graphic floral denim.

Metallics are versatile for day or evening, so why not wrap the legs in some shine?  Wear a neutral blouse and let the denim speak for itself. Who says that metallics have to be accessories? Not me.

Waxed Denim is an interesting texture, and it gives the look of leather – with more movement. Wear a colored pair for day and try a metallic pair for evening. Wear a black pair to transition from work to a night out. For those who love leather, there are real leather or faux leather options too.

Peplum is trendy this Fall – and the fun part about it is playing with the proportions. Puffy Peplum could be a throwback to the 80’s and 90’s…which may be the desired look for those who didn’t wear it the first time around. Structured or geometric Peplum is perfect for the office, or be flirty and choose a ruffled hem.

The fabulous thing about Peplum is that it accentuates an hourglass silhouette, or it gives the illusion of one.

When putting together an outfit that includes an exaggerated shape, think about the overall proportions. If the Peplum is on the top (ie. a jacket) then wear a slim cut pant on the bottom. If the bottom is a Peplum skirt then wear a fitted or slim cut top.

Peplum pants do exist but I wouldn’t recommend them to anyone under the age of 6. Although, fashion is all about expression, so work the Peplum pants if you love them.

With the end of Summer on the horizon there is still a little time to hop aboard a boat, sailboat, or yacht (even if only in a daydream) and wear some nautical pieces.
