Casey is , well, Casey. Charming, down to earth, and has the ability to make you feel like you’ve known him for years. If you’re in Toronto, and pay attention to Twitter, you’ll notice that Casey is all over. He provides commentary, and takes AWESOME pictures.
Bureaucrat by day, my day job involves writing business cases, creating costing models in Excel and making data make sense.
My life outside of work, though, involves blogging, photography, and a social life that never leaves me bored!
My blog has finally found its voice after a decade of experimentation, and it’s all about living, dining and playing in the city of Toronto. That, plus some travel, ideas and a whole lot of photos, and you have http://caseypalmer.com. Come join the party!
I am wearing:
My daily “uniform” is a dress shirt and a pair of dark jeans. You’ll rarely see me wear anything else! I’ve recently been shopping at Calvin Klein and Express for tops and Cole Haan for shoes. Finding jeans that fit is always a pain in the (wait for it!) butt, so whenever I find one, I buy as many as my budget can handle!
Hoping to upgrade my shirts to some fancier items from Italy soon, though!
The most versatile item in my closet:My blazers are famously useful — great for jazzing up my clothes when I’m at a social media event, or just right for meetings at work. A good blazer is the exact right touch that you need in order to add that final touch to an outfit! …but I guess a pocket square would be a good final final touch, though?Beauty must-haves…
- Any man with hair as curly as mine doesn’t use your typical cartridge razor to shave — too many ingrown hairs. I use an Andis electric barber’s clipper modified by my barber to get my shave just right — any guy should know what looks good on his head and what doesn’t; it’s one of the first things that people will look at!
- Good hand cream and lip balm
- Shoe polish and the know-how to use it
- Collar stays to keep shirts looking crisp
One thing every girl (guy) should have:A man like me? Kidding.
One thing every guy should have is a good sense of style — dressing up in a hoodie and some pants that don’t fit is a bad call. Gotta learn to dress!
Every girl? I’m not sure if any man would want to brave answering that question!
What are you listening to right now:
I’m currently trimming my entire music collection — when you have 14,000 songs, you don’t tend to listen to it all. If you haven’t heard Kendrick Lamar’s good kid, m.A.A.d. city, you need to do so immediately. The story of a teen in Compton, California fighting the struggle between the gang life that’s ever-so-prevalent and the near-impossible path of making it out of the ghetto — and masterfully done. I’ve played it hundreds of times — you should get on it!
The one thing I can’t leave the house without:
My iPod comes with me wherever I go — music is such an integral part of my life that living without it is painful to me. My smartphone (a Samsung Galaxy S3) comes as a very close second, though!
Favourite places to eat in the city:
- Pizzeria Libretto — most delicious pizzas in town
- Over Easy — for an excellent brunch
- Morgan’s on the Danforth — their Double Smoke Burger is divine
Ideal Friday night plans:
Saturdays are the only days I get to sleep in, so Friday nights can be as wild as they need to be. Of course, I’m the furthest thing from single, so “wild” is a relative term. I’ve recently had fun at the Royal Ontario Museum’s ROM Friday Night Live series, where they mix dancing, culture, wining and dining into one awesome atmosphere! Anything that gets me out and doing something different’s going to win in my books!
All time favourite book/movie:
Book — Ender’s Game is utter genius
Movie — The Shawshank Redemption is a great film for anyone to watch!
