An hour’s drive away from Brussels, Liege is quickly becoming a destination for art lovers and weekenders alike.
A charming little town of 200,000, Liege is the sort of city that you don’t really think about, but are glad that you found it. It has history, culture, and a 373 stair climb to the best view in the city.
How to get there:
Liege is also the type of city that deserves more love than it’s been getting recently. Being in the shadow of Brussels means that you can to get to it in less than half an hour on the Thalys. We’re big lovers of train travel, and a 30-minute trip means that you can do a day trip really easily.
What to do there:
You can tell that the town value art, history, and culture the moment you step inside the train station. The station itself is a work of art. And that feeling is amplified when combined with the art museum inside.
Things to do in Liege:
- Marvel the design of Liège-Guillemins Train Station: Designed by the same person who designed the 9/11 memorial in NYC, his fluid vision for the train station is something to be marveled.
- Check out the exhibitions in the station (The Dali one was amazing): Yes, there’s an art museum inside the train station. Yes, we typed that right. We were amazed too. Being a Dali lover, the last collection, and activation blew my mind.
The curators know how to bring the exhibit to live. The next one is scheduled is based on what life will be like 30 years from now.
- Indulge on Liège waffles (yes, it’s different): As if you need anything else.
Grab a pint at Place du Marché: Situated in the middle of town, this is where you go to grab a drink with friends. Imagine a group of pubs with patios on a warm summer evening. That’s Place du Marché.
Climb Montagne de Bueren for fun. There are 373 stairs. The view is amazing. But there are 373 stairs. You decide.
Where to Stay:
Crown Plaza– a hotel that hosts the Royals. The only 5-star hotel in Liege is located within 10-minute walk to the core. The lobby bar itself is a great place to spend catching up on working or meeting friends for coffee or a drink.

Liege is one of the only other Belgian cities on the Thalys route, and one that is so worth discovering.
