As a Montrealer, I’m pretty used to unpredictable weather — snow today, sunshine tomorrow, cold snap to freeze everything up, sure, why not. Generally, I buy a new pair of boots every winter because, as an avid transit user, I walk everywhere and my boots ineveitable keep breaking at one place or another.
Oddly enough, this year I did not see snowfall once. Montreal had only two major snowfalls and I spent the first one In Europe and the second in the Dominican. Unfortunately, this meant that I didn’t buy a new pair of boot in 2011-2012. When the rain started up in mid-April I was completely unprepared and was forced to walk to school in shoes that were entirely soaked through by the time I arrived. I spent the whole class thinking about it and ultimately bit the bullet on the way home. I decided to stop buying cheap $30 pairs of boots and get myself a pair of Hunter boots.

Best $178 I ever spent! Granted, had I not been so cheap I could have picked them up in London for $126 but that’s neither here nor there. I wake up now and look out of the window hoping for rain just so that I can pull on my wooly socks and slide these boots on. I love them and my feet stay dry and I that makes me so happy it’s unbelievable.
Aside from being entirely practical, boots go with everything. I can wear these with tights, skinny jeans, regular jeans, sweatpants — I might even go so far as to say that I could probably pull these off with a skirt/dress. Hunter boots are the fashionable boot right now and, if you’re wearing them and look relatively put together, no one cares what else you’re wearing.
