To me, having a fun-filled girl’s weekend includes great food, drinks, people and places. That’s exactly what Lambton County has to offer. With it being 2.5 hours west of Toronto, it’s the perfect “not too far, not too close” getaway. Lambton County is also known as Ontario’s Blue Coast. It is home to not one, but two Blue Flag Beaches. Both beaches (Canatara’s Blue Flag Beach and Grand Bend Blue Flag Beach) were awarded this eco-certification due to their safety standards for swimmers and great water quality.
Where to Stay
Holiday Inn Sarnia- Point Edward
This comforting and welcoming stay is located in a beautiful marina setting in the village of Point Edward. Nothing makes a safe and fun girl’s trip like being able to walk back to your hotel from the location you were drinking at. The Holiday Inn Sarnia is within 10 minutes, walking distance, away from the Bluewater BorderFest in Centennial Park.
It also is central to shopping, parks and beaches! It’s definitely recommended to wake up early and go enjoy your gal pals company over their phenomenal breakfast.
Nothing screams “girl’s weekend” like an indoor salt water pool with a whirlpool. Pamper yourself alongside your friends with their heated amenities and sauna. To pamper yourself is to pamper your mind, take yourself to the ocean and relax for a bit. Pine Dale Motor Inn is just a short walk from Grand Bends famous beach. This inn is surrounded by gorgeous park-like gardens and is just simply beautiful to look at.
Where to Wine
A bold and tasteful winery surrounded by the beautiful scenery of Lake Huron. It’s a girl’s trip, all of your stress and worries should be left behind. With this winery’s unique architecture, it’ll leave you and your other lady friends feeling stress-free. Not only is this a place that you can sit back, relax and let go; it is a lovely venue to host a large event or a wedding.
Here, at Alton Farms Estate Winery, the terrace is covered in beautiful flora making it a gorgeous and quaint experience. The coolest thing about this homey place is that the wine is all handmade. Yep, that’s right. Every glass of wine that is produced from there is made entirely from hand. You can taste the quality and pureness of the wine. With that being said, the process of producing the wine from scratch limits the chemical input. This winery started out as a bucket list item (to the owners, Marc and Anne Alton) and then shortly became a success in 2005. Today the company is doing an amazing job and keeping customers very happy.
If you’re craving great wine and good service you can’t go wrong with either one of these places!
Where to Dine
This adorable yet delicious food truck is perfect for a warm beach day. Its location is prime. You can take your food to the beach or stop here for a delicious meal after a long day out in the sun. There’s something about a good, fat, tasty taco at the beach that just says “weekend trip!”. The best thing about this food truck is its organic and locally sourced ingredients. You can easily split the food items amongst you and your gal pals, such as the desert taco. This fresh and traditional taco truck is definitely a must while on a girls trip.
With a girls trip to a beach town, you can’t expect to leave without a nautical food option. A five-minute drive from the Holiday Inn and this place sits with a marina view, the best view in the whole city. Along with their incredible gasp-worthy view, Alternate Grounds Dockside has incredible and all fresh food. Bad weather about to ruin your girls night out with food? Fret not, because their interior view of the marina is amazing as well.
Located a five-minute walk away from Grand Bend Beach- and still right on the strip- is the perfect place if cute casual lunch or a fun girls night out. If you want a lazy night in that’s doable as well. Just order takeout, and there you have it- an amazing dinner with the girls. It’s every sushi lovers dream! If someone in the group isn’t a fan of fish that’s perfectly fine. This place also specializes in appetizers, salads, stir-fries and more.
Dave’s Pub and Grill (Oakwood Resort)
Dave’s Pub and Grill has the setting of an urban pub, with the feeling of a Canadian lodge. It’s the perfect place to sip on drinks with the girls or embellish in a luxurious meal. This is the perfect location to kick back, relax and enjoy, so do so!
Is it actually a girls trip without brunch? If the answer is no, then you are absolutely correct. Brunch is so much fun and is totally a staple to a girl’s trip. Enjoy your favorite brunch items at the Schoolhouse Restaurant with traditional style food. Everything is prepared from scratch the “traditional” way, ensuring the best quality ingredients on your plate.
What to Do
This beach is 1 of 26 that have earned the Blue Flag award. This relaxing and breathtakingly beautiful beach is a great destination for any group. At sunset, you can take fun, cute and candid photos with your girls for your favorite social media outlets. A really snazzy thing about this beach is your ability to rent beach/water gear.
Beach Bumz Rentals has just about everything in case you forgot something. For your own luxury, you and your friends can rent beach loungers, umbrellas, towels, and hammocks. If you want to be a bit more on the adventurous side, Beach Bumz will provide paddle boards, kayaks and more for your experience.
Bluewater BorderFest is Sarnia’s biggest party of the summer, talk about a fun girl’s weekend! In Centennial Park you get to jam out to your favorite Canadian and American artists. Along with jamming out to your favorite artists, you get to drink while watching them as well. It’s a fun time and thank goodness it’s only staggering distance from the Holiday Inn.
Time to get your ‘vitamin sea’ in on this awesome 20-acre beach. Although the beach is huge, it fills fast on the weekend. It’s a popular beach spot, even for many Americans. Even though the beach fills up quite quickly, it’s the prime spot for people watching. People watching, especially while having a few cocktails, can prompt many of great laughs and fun discussions.
Whether parasailing is on your bucket list or it just sounds interesting, it is definitely an activity to do with a group. None the less, a group of awesome girls for the most amazing weekend of your life. If you want to see everything at once with a breathtaking view, then this is the perfect activity to participate in. As you go up 1000 feet in the air, you will awestruck at the view you have of Lake Huron. This activity is truly one that you and your gal pals will never forget, and hopefully the rest of the weekend as well!
