Lunch breaks have become that elusive thing that we don’t make time for anymore. I know, personally, I tend to eat at my desk when I get hungry and have long since forgotten to add a lunch break to my daily calendar- especially when I’m working from home. It’s just easier to plow through the task list of the day.
It’s a shame really- lunch breaks are the time we should be able to step away from the stresses (or joys) of work and either let our mind wander so we’re refreshed when we get back, or meet up with a friend and catch up on everything other than work.
It may not sound like a huge deal, but a recent survey by SUBWAY shows that 70 per cent of workers take a lunch break that is 30 minutes or less and 20 per cent of millennials take fewer than 15 minutes for lunch, as compared to 11 per cent GenX.
That’s insane to me.
Don’t get me wrong, I get the need to be caught up on work, and get ahead, but there’s something so awesome about grabbing a friend for lunch, and catching up on your lives, and allowing your brain to reset for the rest of the day.
And it seems that SUBWAY® agrees with me as they are encouraging consumers to ‘#SaveLunchBreak’ and take a breather to replenish their minds and bodies before tackling the rest of their day in celebration of National Sandwich Day on November 3rd.
Having more time to think to think about what you’re eating also allows you to make better and healthier choices. That would explain why the survey also found most workers report they would prefer to reach for a sandwich piled high with meat and veggies before a greasy burger with a side of fries.
So, really taking a lunch break basically means that not only are you getting away from your computer, but you’re also going to make healthier choices!
Sounds like a no-brainer to me!
And to just make it more interesting, SUBWAY® is offering a ‘Buy One; Share One’ meal deal ALL DAY on National Sandwich Day (November 3rd). Customers who purchase any six inch or footlong SUBWAY® sandwich and any drink will receive a second sandwich of equal or lesser value to give to a person of their choice.
YES, that means that you can grab a friend and treat them to lunch with actually paying anything extra!
How awesome is that?
I, personally, find that sitting down and having a conversation with someone away from my computer or even my phone helps my brain recharge. Not only that, but most of my creative and crazy ideas come to me midday so it’s the ideal time for me to not be in stressing out my brain with the same thing I do all day long.
