Spring is finally here, and the need to be at cottage is overwhelmingly strong. While most of us don’t have our cottages to run off to, there are places like Viamede Resort on Stoney Lake that gives us that opportunity- all with less than a 2 hour drive.
The beautiful thing about Viamede Resort is that they have all season activities, and having been there last winter to snow-shoe, and cross country ski, we took full advantage of the perfect weather, and much needed sun on the balcony this time around.
Here’s a snapshot of what to expect from the resort:
Accommodations:
Viamede Resort is newly renovated, and the rooms are the perfect blend of hotel luxuries, and cottage charm. Most of the rooms are equipped with roomy showers, but a few have jetted tubs to ease those sore muscles from hiking or Frisbee golf. The rooms are spacious, and most have balconies facing the lake. They even have private cottages with bbqs if you want the cottage feel. The rooms start at $249, and have breakfast included!
Culinary:
1885
Located in the main building of Viamede Resort, 1885 takes us back to the time of Colonel Sam Strickland, the builder of Viamede. 1885 is the where breakfast is served. Get there early and snag a table overlooking the lake.
Mount Julian
The Viamede Resort team prepares everything fresh- from breads to desserts, with the 7-course menu being the most popular choice. The food is playful and seasonal, with menu items changing from day to day, and week to week, as ingredients come into season and then fade away so you’re never going to have the same dish twice.
The Boathouse Pub
You can find a traditional pub menu (wings, pulled pork sandwiches etc), and atmosphere ( kareoke, and live music) right on the lake. Grab a pint, play pool, and make new friends.
Activities:
Stoney Creek is full activities for the adventure loving. You have the option to canoe, go for a hike, check out the farm, or play Frisbee golf (which is really really fun!). They also have a pool on the ground if reading a book, and working on your tan is more up your alley.
You can also go for a drive and explore the beautiful scenery, and nearby towns. Buckhorn is only a 20 min drive, and they have a charming antiques shop.
